ADA -- The Ohio Northern baseball team fell to Ohio Athletic Conference foe John Carroll 13-3, 2-0 Sunday afternoon in double header action at Wander Field.
The Polar Bears fall to 11-9 overall and 2-2 in the OAC, while the Blue Streaks improve to 8-11, 2-2.
Sophomore Hayden Shenefield led the way offensively for Northern as he went 2-for-5 and added a run on the afternoon.
In game one, Northern jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after senior Nick Eltzroth hit an RBI double to right field and plated Shenefield in the bottom of the first inning to give ONU a 1-0 lead.
John Carroll would answer with a seven run inning in the top of the third to take a 7-1 lead.
The Blue Streaks would add five more runs before Northern struck again in the bottom of the seventh inning as senior Andy Lubonovic hit a two RBI double to right field and plated sophomore Brandon Kasberg and senior Clay Small to close the gap to 12-3.
JCU would close the game in the eighth as they added an insurance run.
In game two the Blue Streaks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning with a home run over the right field fence.
The Polar Bear defense responded as they held JCU scoreless for the next four innings.
John Carroll would add an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning as they went on to win 2-0.
Northern will return to action Wednesday afternoon as they play host to Wittenberg at Wander Field at 4 pm.
