Baseball falls 7-2 at Denison

GRANVILLE -- The Ohio Northern baseball team dropped a 7-2 decision to Denison Wednesday evening in Granville.
The Polar Bears fall to 11-7 on the season and remain 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Big Red improve to 9-3 overall.
Northern was led by senior Nick Eltzroth as he went 1-for-2 at the plate and added an RBI and a run, while sophomore Hayden Shenefield went 2-for-4 during the contest.
Denison struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning as sophomore Noah Hahn scored on a throwing error and gave the Big Red an early 1-0 lead.
DU would add another run in the fourth to go up 2-0.
The Polar Bears would fight back in the top of the sixth inning as senior Andy Lubonovic reached on a single to center field and stole second before Eltzroth plated Lubonovic with an RBI single to center field to pull Northern with 2-1.
Denison added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh inning after sophomore Tanner Johnson hit an RBI single to center field to push the lead to 3-1.
The Big Red would close the door in the eighth inning as they tacked on four more runs and took a 7-1 advantage heading into the ninth inning.
Senior Clay Small would hit an RBI sac fly to right field in the top of the ninth inning and plate Eltzroth to pull the Polar Bears within 7-2 but Northern was unable to get any closer as DU went on to win.
Northern returns to action Saturday as it welcomes OAC foe John Carroll to Wander Field for a twinbill at 1 pm.
