ADA -- Senior Clay Small led ONU as they fell to Denison 4-1 Tuesday afternoon at Wander Field.
The Polar Bears fall to 11-6 overall and remain atop the Ohio Athletic Conference standings at 2-0, while the Big Red improve to 8-3 overall.
Small went 1-for-4 in the contest, recording one double and an RBI.
Denison would break the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning as senior Duncan Moran singled to center plating the games first run.
Northern would place two on the base pads in the bottom of the fourth inning setting the scene for an RBI double from Small tying the game 1-1.
Denison responded in the top of the fifth inning plating two more runs before Eckert was able to record his fifth strike out of the contest retiring the side.
The Big Red would add an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning en route to the victory.
Northern will return to action Wednesday as they travel to Granville to play the second game of the home-and-home series with Denison at 6 pm at the Big Red Baseball Field.
