AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The No. 24-ranked Ohio Northern baseball team wrapped up its annual spring break trip with a 1-1 double header split with Roger Williams (R.I.) Saturday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla.
The Polar Bears improve to 4-4 on the year, while the Hawks fall to 1-3.
Senior Alex Crabtree led the way for the Polar Bears as he went five innings and struck out a career-high 10 batters while only allowing three hits in game two and improving his record to 2-0 on the year.
Sophomore Brandon Kasberg led the ONU offense as he went 2-for-3 during game two and recorded two RBI's.
Game one started out as a pitchers dual as both teams only recorded one hit apiece through the first five innings.
The RW bats came alive in the bottom of the fifth inning as they posted a four hit, four run inning and took a 4-0 lead.
Northern was able to close the gap in the top of the sixth inning as sophomore Jordan Bostater hit an RBI single to center field and scored sophomore Braydon Focht to pull Northern within 4-1.
The Hawks would close the game out from there and take game one.
In game two, Northern was able to get their offense going as they recorded a four hit, four run fourth inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead.
After back-to-back singles from seniors Andy Lubonovic and Nick Eltzroth, Bostater would hit a sac fly to center field and score Lubonovic.
On the ensuing at bat Focht hit an RBI single to center field to plate Eltzroth.
After Focht stole second and senior Clay Small was walked, Kasberg would single to left field and and bring home Focht.
The Polar Bears would end their scoring in the fourth as Small advanced home on a passed ball and pushed the Northern lead to 4-0.
Roger Williams was able to pull within 4-2 before ONU closed the door and Kasberg hit an RBI single to left field and scored Bostater in the bottom of the sixth.
With the save, sophomore T.J. Storer is now tied for third all-time in Polar Bear history with seven career saves.
Northern will return to the diamond Saturday as they open up the home portion of their schedule with a double header against Oberlin at 12 pm.
