AUBURNDALE, FLA. -- The No. 24-ranked Ohio Northern baseball team dropped a 3-2 decision to No. 22-ranked wartburg (Iowa) Tuesday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla.
The Polar Bears fall to 2-2 on the season while Knights improve to 1-1.
Sophomore Dan Barna led the way for Northern after going 2-of-3 and adding an RBI single.
Barna got Northern on the board early in the contest as he drilled an RBI single to left field in the bottom of the third inning and brought home sophomore Brandon Kasberg.
After Wartburg was held scoreless for the first five innings, the Knights would score on an error in the top of the sixth inning to knot the game at 1-1.
On the ensuing at bat, Wartburg would take the lead with a 2-run homer to the left field fence.
The Polar Bears were able to narrow the Knights lead in the bottom of the seventh inning as junior Devin Carr scored on a throwing error from the Wartburg shortstop to pull within 3-2.
Northern was unable to get any closer as Wartburg went on to win the contest 3-2.
Ohio Northern will return to action Thursday as they take on St. John Fisher (N.Y.) at 2:30 pm at Chain of Lakes Park in Winterhaven, Fla.
