Baseball drops both games of double header to Mount Union in extra innings

ADA -- The Ohio Northern baseball team dropped both games of a double header in extra innings against Mount Union on Tuesday afternoon at Wander Field.
The Polar Bears are now 12-15 on the season and 3-7 in OAC play, while the Purple Raiders are 14-11 overall and 5-5 in conference.
In Game 2, Mount Union scored a run in the sixth and seventh inning to tie the game at 4-4.
The Purple Raiders then took the lead in the eighth, but ONU responded on an RBI single from freshman Cody Meyer to tie the game back up at 5-5.
But Mount Union responded with two runs in the 10th, to take the lead back 7-5.
The Polar Bears threatened in the 10th inning, scoring a run, but stranded the tying run at third base.
The Purple Raiders scored the first run of the game on an RBI single, to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
But ONU responded in the bottom of the second, on an RBI double from freshman Clay Small that scored sophomore Jack LaMarca.
Mount Union grabbed the lead in the fourth on a RBI groundout.
But Northern responded in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead back.
LaMarca blasted a solo homer to tie the game at 2-2.
After freshman Alex Crabtree reached on an error, Small laced a single to right center to score Crabtree and put the Polar Bears back up 3-2.
Junior Matt Magni followed with a double down the right field line and Small beat the throw home to increase the Polar Bears lead to 4-2.
Mount Union plated a run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly, cutting the ONU lead to 4-3.
Freshman Ben Glischinski went five innings for Northern and struck out a career high nine, picking up a no decision.
In the first game, the Polar Bears scored four times in the first to jump out to an early lead.
Freshman Nick Eltzroth drew a two out walk and advanced to second on a single from sophomore Dan Belliveau.
Senior Kevin Obarski followed with a single to center, scoring Eltzroth and moving Belliveau to third.
LaMarca then hit a ground that was misplayed by the first baseman, scoring Eltzroth.
Senior Cory Martin followed with a double to left center, scoring LaMarca and Belliveau and give ONU a 4-0 lead.
Mount Union respond with three runs in the second and one more in the fifth to tie the game.
Mount Union put runners on second and third with nobody out in the eighth, but Crabtree got two flyouts and a strikeout to keep the game tied at 4-4.
The Purple Raiders struck for six runs in the top of the ninth inning, capped off by a 3-run homer from Sean Mohoney.
Martin led ONU, going 2-for-4 with two RBI's.
Ryan Sason (3-0) picked up the win for Mount Union, pitching four innings in relief and not giving up a hit.
Crabtree took the loss for ONU and is now 1-1.
Ohio Northern has another quick turnaround and will travel to Wilmington for a 1 pm double header on Tuesday.
