ADA -- The Ohio Northern baseball team fell 13-4 and 16-0 in its OAC opener to No. 5-ranked Marietta on Saturday afternoon and Wander Field.
The Polar Bears fall to 7-8 on the season and 0-2 in the OAC, while the Pioneers are 12-4 and 2-0 in conference.
In Game 1, the Pioneers scored eight times in the first inning to jump out to an early 8-0 lead.
ONU responded with two runs of its own in the bottom of the first on a RBI double from freshman Grant Wilson.
Freshman Nick Eltzroth then reached on an error to score another run, but Wilson was thrown out at home to end the inning.
The Polar Bears plated another run in the bottom of the second on a RBI single from freshman Cody Meyer, to cut the Pioneers lead to 8-3.
The Pioneers answered back with three runs in the fourth to push their lead back to 11-3.
ONU struck for a run in the sixth on an RBI double to left center by senior Kevin Obarski.
The Pioneers would tack on two more runs to take the first game, 13-4.
Obarski led the Polar Bears going 2-for-3 with an RBI and sophomore Jack LaMarca was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Jason Byers (2-1) went six innings for the Pioneers, giving up three runs.
Senior Austin Price took the loss and falls to 2-1 on the season.
In Game 2, MC plated two runs in the third inning on a single and a fielders choice to take a 2-0 lead.
The Pioneers then blew the game open in the fourth, scoring eight times to take a 10-0 lead.
Marietta would tack on five more runs over the course of the game to pick up the win.
Mike Mulvey pitched six dominant innings for MC, giving up no runs, one hit and striking out five.
Senior Tyler Deitering (0-2) struck out four batters in three innings of work.
Ohio Northern will return to action on Tuesday when they host OAC foe Capital in a double header that begins at 1 pm.
