ADA -- Erik Stegman smashed a walk-off grand slam, capping a 8-run seventh inning rally in the nightcap, to lead the Ohio Northern baseball team to a sweep of Davenport (Mich.) Saturday afternoon at Wander Field.
The Polar Bears improve to 8-7 on the season, while the Panthers fall to 19-6.
Northern won the opener 4-0 and took the nightcap 8-4.
Trailing 4-0 entering the bottom of the last of Game 2, the Polar Bears plated eight runs, capped by a walk-off grand slam by Stegman, to post the 8-4 win.
Adam Yunker drew a bases-loaded walk and Greg Gibbons was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and one out to make it 4-2. Drew Robinson then drilled a 2-run single to tie the game at 4-4.
The Panthers then intentionally walked Matt Hampshire to load the bases again, setting up Stegman's game-winning home run.
Ben Stoll (1-0) got the win for ONU in game two.
In the opener, Brian Hill (3-1) threw a complete-game shutout to earn the victory on the hill.
Robinson had a 2-run single in the bottom of the first to put Northern up 2-0.
ONU got two more in the third when Yunker singled and scored on a triple by Katana. Robinson then plated Katana with a sacrifice fly to account for all the scoring Northern would need.
The Polar Bears will return to action next Saturday with their Ohio Athletic Conference opening doubleheader at Mount Union.
