ADA - Sophomore pitcher Justin Miller was spectacular for the Ohio Northern baseball team, pitching a three-hit complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts in Northern's 2-0 Game 2 victory over Baldwin-Wallace Saturday afternoon at Wander Field.
The Yellow Jackets won Game 1 8-4.
The Polar Bears remain above .500 with an 11-10 overall record and a 2-2 record in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Baldwin-Wallace is now 10-10 and 2-4.
This marks Miller's first complete game and first shutout of the season, while only walking three batters over the nine innings.
Miller got stronger as the game went on, as was evident when he capped off the game by striking out six batters over the final three innings.
He is now 3-2 on the year. B-W pitcher Justin Novak (2-2) also pitched a complete game in the loss.
Sophomore Adam Yunker got the Polar Bears in the top of the first when he scored from third base after a double by junior Drew Robinson.
Robinson then scored ONU's last run in the bottom of the fourth. He led off the inning with a single and advanced to third base on a double by freshman Matt Hampshire.
He came around to score when freshman Jacob Copley beat out an infield single to the shortstop.
The Polar Bears never led in Game 1 of the doubleheader. Down three runs in the bottom of the fifth, ONU responded to tie the game.
Robinson and junior Brett Katana each knocked in a run in the inning, while ONU took advantage of a B-W throwing error to get its other run.
The Yellow Jackets responded immediately in the top of the sixth a four-run inning to put the game out of reach for the Polar Bears.
Brandon Frederick picked up the win and moves to 2-3, while senior Brian Hill took the ONU loss and falls to 4-3.
Robinson ended the day 3-for-6 for ONU.
The Polar Bears will travel to Wilmington on Wednesday to play a doubleheader at 1 pm.
