CINCINNATI — The Ohio Northern volleyball team opened play at the Mount Saint Joseph Invitational on Friday night with a tight 31-29, 25-22, 25-22 loss to Transylvania (Ky.) at the Harrington Center.
The Polar Bears fall to 9-3 overall, while the Pioneers improve to 11-5.
Sophomore Erin Wagner (Massillon/Perry) and junior Kaidie Carstensen (Raymond/Fairbanks) had 10 kills each for ONU.
All three sets were tight affairs, coming down to the wire, but TU was able to edge ONU in all three to grab the victory.
Transylvania was led by Isabelle Myers with a match-high 13 kills.
Sophomore Rachel Jennings (Novi, Mich.) added 38 digs and sophomore Grace Conrad (Somerset/Sheridan) dished out 30 assists for Northern.
ONU hit .115 for the match with 42 kills and 24 errors on 156 attacks, while TU hit .169 with 46 kills and 19 errors on 160 attempts. Both teams had seven blocks and three aces in the evenly-match contest.
The Polar Bears return to the court on Saturday with an 11 am match against Christopher Newport (Va.) and a 1 pm match against host Mount St. Joseph.
