ADA — The No. 24-ranked Ohio Northern volleyball team ran its win streak to eight matches with a pair of victories over Capital on Friday afternoon on Senior Day at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears improve to 12-2 overall and are 12-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
Capital falls to 0-16, 0-16.
Junior Melina Woods (Ada) hit .528 with 26 kills with one error on only 48 attempts in the two matches to lead ONU.
ONU honored its three seniors - Paige Hartings (Coldwater), Christen Ware (Jackson Center) and Hope Williamson (Noblesville, Ind./Herirtage Christian) - in a ceremony between the two matches.
Northern won the opening match in convincing fashion 25-6, 25-10, 25-9.
Woods had 12 kills and freshman Sydney Eggleton (Southfield, Mich./Farmington) added 10 kills for Ohio Northern.
ONU his an impressive .3965 with 40 kills and just four errors on 91 attempts, while Capital hit -.067 with 15 kills and 21 errors on 89 attacks.
Northern started slow and came on strong at the end to win the second match 25-22, 23-25, 25-10, 25-14.
Woods and freshman Ava Ehlinger (New Carlisle/Tecumseh) had 14 kills each in match two.
ONU hit .317 with 56 kills and CU hit .085 with 35 kills.
The Polar Bears will wrap up their regular season on the road next week with two matches at No. 12-ranked Otterbein on Tuesday and two matches at Mount Union on Friday.
The OAC Tournament will begin with the quarterfinals on April 13.
