Katie Wade named OAC Freshman of the Year as Volleyball lands five All-OAC honorees

ADA — For the second consecutive season, the Ohio Northern volleyball team landed the Ohio Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year as five athletes were named All-OAC in 2017.
Freshman Katie Wade (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) was named the OAC Freshman of the Year for Ohio Northern (27-5 overall), while senior libero Megan Nieszala (Lambertville, Mich./St. Marys Catholic Central) and sophomore Chelsea Huppert (Bremen, Ind.) were named First Team All-OAC, sophomore McKenna Jordan (Toledo/St. Ursula) and Wade were named Second Team All-OAC and senior Haley Potters (Wheelersburg/South Webster) was named Honorable Mention All-OAC.
Nieszala earned her third career All-Conference kudos and was named First Team All-OAC for the second time in her career.
The senior leads the team and currently ranks second in the OAC with 546 digs and currently ranks fourth all-time at Ohio Northern with 1,833 digs.
Huppert earns her second All-OAC honor in her two years as a Polar Bear. The sophomore was named First Team All-OAC after leading the team offensively and defensively at the net.
The sophomore currently leads the team and ranks third in the OAC in kills (370), and ranks first on the team and in the conference with 121 blocks.
As well as earning OAC Freshman of the Year honors, Wade was dubbed a Second Team All-OAC honoree.
The freshman stepped into the setter role for Ohio Northern and has had a record-breaking season.
Wade's 1,251 assists this season currently leads the team and ranks second in the OAC and is the second-best mark for a freshman at Ohio Northern in school history.
Jordan, the 2016 OAC Freshman of the Year, was named Second Team All-OAC and earned her second All-Conference honor.
The sophomore currently ranks second on the team and fourth in the OAC in kills (359).
Potters was named All-OAC for the second time in her career as she was named Honorable Mention All-OAC.
The senior currently ranks third on the team with 280 kills and is second on the team and third in the conference with 106 blocks.
The Polar Bears fell in the OAC Tournament Championship match on Saturday afternoon and will await the NCAA Selection show on Monday afternoon at 12:30 pm to see the if they earn an at-large bid to the NCAA III Tournament.
