Sophomore Haley Potters leads Volleyball to three set victory over Trine, Ind.
SPRINGFIELD - The Ohio Northern volleyball team defeated Trine, Ind. Friday evening 25-21, 25-13, 25-19 at the Pam Evans Smith Arena.
The Polar Bears move to 7-3 overall, while the Thunder fall to 3-6 overall.
Junior Haley Potters led Northern with a game-high nine kills.
Sophomore Ashley Borchers added 23 assists and five kills in the contest.
The Polar Bears, in set one, capitalized early as they were able to take advantage of Trine errors and increase their lead to 8-4.
The Thunder rallied late in the set but a kill by Ohio Northern senior Ellie Gillespie was able to seal the set 1, 25-21 victory.
Northern dominated set 2 as they jumped to a quick 5-2 advantage following a kill from Borchers.
The Polar Bears would close out the set scoring six of the last nine points to win 25-13.
In set three, Trine battled but the Polar Bears were able to combat the attack and secure the 25-19 win.
ONU hit .250 for the match with 37 kills, while Trine hit .115 with 33 kills.
Trine was led in the contest by Janaya Wilder with a team-high seven kills.
The Polar Bears return to action Saturday as they face off with #7 Wittenberg at 2 pm, followed by Hope, Mich. at 6 pm.
