Women's Tennis has solid showing at ITA Central Regionals

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team wrapped up its fall schedule Friday and Saturday at the ITA Regional Championships.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (0-0 Overall)
- Venue: Stowe Stadium & Markin Center - Kalamazoo, Mich.
- The tournament did not have any team scoring.
- Each player were guaranteed at least two singles matches and two doubles contests.
Highlights
- Junior Jenna Bell (Latrobe, Pa.) and sophomore Abby Cruser (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) each went 2-2 to lead the Polar Bears.
- Bell was 1-1 in singles and was 1-1 with freshman Caroline Robinson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) in doubles play.
- Cruser went 1-1 in singles and combined with senior Julianne Sheldon (Ashtabula / Saint John) to go 1-1 in doubles action.
- Senior Miranda Wills (Ada) and freshman Lauren Okrainec (Ingersoll, ON, Canada/Homeschool) were 1-2 in doubles play.
- Okrainec also went 1-1 in singles to finish 2-3 on the weekend.
- and each went 2-1 in singles play to lead the Polar Bears.
- Junior Jamie Hurst (Granger, Ind./Penn) was 1-1 in singles play and senior Katie O'Connell (Novi, Mich./Saint Catherine) was 0-2 in singles play.
- ONU players recorded a 4-6 singles record and a 3-4 doubles mark in the tournament.
Notables
- This is the third of three tournaments in which ONU will compete during its fall schedule.
- Cruser, Hurst and Okrainec each finished with 6-3 singles records.
- Cruser (10-7 overall) and Okrainec (10-7 overall) also had 4-4 doubles marks, while Hurst (10-5 overall) finished 4-2 in doubles play.
- Bell joined those three with 10 overall victories, going 5-4 in singles, 5-3 in doubles and 10-7 overall.
- Third-year head coach Sean Swisher is 34-11 at the helm of the ONU women's tennis team, a winning percentage of .756.
