Jenna Bell wins A Singles flight, leads Women's Tennis to impressive performance at Hope (Mich.) Invitational

HOLLAND, Mich. — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team sent a message to the region with an outstanding performance at the Hope (Mich.) Invitational Friday and Saturday.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (0-0 Overall)
- Venue: VandePoel-Heeringa Stadium Courts - Holland, Mich.
- The tournament did not have any team scoring.
- There were eight teams competing, with 16 or so players each in five singles flights and eight doubles teams in four doubles flights.
- Each singles player was guaranteed four matches (including byes) in their respective flight and doubles team was guaranteed three matches (including byes) in their respective flight, which determined places 1-16 in each flight.
- Each doubles team was guaranteed three matches (including byes) in their respective flight, which determined places 1-8 in each flight.
Singles Highlights
- Junior Jenna Bell (Latrobe, Pa.) won the A Singles flight with a 4-0 record to lead the Polar Bears.
- Freshman Lauren Okrainec (Ingersoll, ON, Canada/Homeschool) finished second in the No. 1 singles flight with a 3-1 mark, falling to Bell in the all-Ohio Northern finals.
- Sophomore Abby Cruser (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) was second in the B Singles flight with a 3-1 record.
- Sophomore Molly McLane (Westerville/Big Walnut) was fourth in the D Singles flight.
Doubles Highlights
- Bell and freshman Caroline Robinson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) finished second in the A Doubles flight with a 3-1 mark.
- Senior Miranda Wills (Ada) and Okrainec finished second in the B Doubles flight with a 3-1 record.
- Juniors Jamie Hurst (Granger, Ind./Penn) and Katie O'Connell (Novi, Mich./Saint Catherine) finished fourth in the B Doubles flight.
Notables
- This is the second of three tournaments in which ONU will compete during its fall schedule.
- Third-year head coach Sean Swisher is 34-11 at the helm of the ONU men's tennis team, a winning percentage of .756.
