Women's Tennis improves to 5-1 in league play with 9-0 shutout of Baldwin Wallace

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team improved to 5-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 9-0 victory over Baldwin Wallace on a chilly and windy Tuesday afternoon at the West Campus Courts.
The Polar Bears improve to 14-4 overall while the Yellow Jackets fall to 3-13, 1-4.
Northern won the three doubles courts by a combined 24-5 to take a 3-0 lead.
Junior Olivia Kesner (Lima/Central Catholic) and senior Flo Sanchez (West Chester/Lakota West) won 8-8 at No. 3, freshman Jamie Hurst (Granger, Ind./Penn) and sophomore Julianne Sheldon (Ashtabula/Saint John) won 8-2 at No. 2 and freshmen Abby Cruser (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) and Jenna Bell (Latrobe, Pa.) won 8-3 at No. 1.
In singles play, Bell won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and sophomore Katie O'Connell (Novi, Mich./Saint Catherine) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 to put ONU ahead 5-0 and clinch the match.
Senior Regan Landis (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) then won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4, Sheldon won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6, Hurst won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 and Cruser won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 to wrap up the match.
With the victory, ONU stayed within one game of first place Otterbein, who is 6-0 with one match left to play, in the hunt for a league regular season title.
The Polar Bears will wrap up their regular season on Saturday at Mount Union.
