Curry ties career singles wins record, Women's Tennis clinches OAC Tournament bye with 6-3 victory at John Carroll

ADA — Sixth-year senior Katie Curry (Oxford/Talawanda) tied the school's career singles wins record, helping the Ohio Northern women's tennis team wrap up its regular season with a 6-3 victory at John Carroll on Saturday at the Short Family Tennis Center.
The Polar Bears improve to 18-6 overall and finish second in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 6-1 mark, while the Blue Streaks fall to 8-6, 5-2.
With the win, Northern clinches the No. 2 seed in next week's OAC Tournament and will receive a bye into the semifinals on Friday at 1 pm at the Lindner Tennis Center in Mason.
JCU will be the No. 3 seed with the loss.
Curry's 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles is the 90th of her career, tying the record set last year by Mackenzie Wills.
She is now 90-21 in singles, 75-34 in doubles and 165-55 overall in her career.
Curry and junior Regan Landis (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles as the Polar Bears trailed 2-1 heading into singles play.
Curry's singles win tied the match at 2-2 and senior Jeorgia Templin (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles to give ONU a 3-2 lead.
The Blue Streaks evened the match at 3-all with a win at No. 1 singles, but freshman Katie O'Connell (Novi, Mich./Saint Catherine) racked up her team-best 22nd singles win of the year at No. 5 (6-2, 6-3) to give ONU the lead for good at 4-3.
Landis clinched the match with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 and freshman Miranda Wills (Ada) put the icing on the cake with a 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 win at No. 4.
The Polar Bears will play the winner of Tuesday's quarterfinal match between No. 3 John Carroll and No. 6 Muskingum in the semifinals.
