Women's Tennis dodges raindrops, lightning to top Baldwin Wallace 7-2

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team defeated Baldwin Wallace 7-2 Wednesday at the University Tennis Courts and the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears improve to 18-4 overall and 5-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Yellow Jackets move to 6-10 overall and 2-4 in OAC play.
After the teams fought lightning delays of 34 and 46 minutes at University Courts, the match was moved indoors to the ONU Sports Center just ahead of a torrential thunderstorm just after 6 pm.
Northern was able to take a 2-1 lead after doubles.
Junior Lynn Kelly (Mason) and sophomore Ashley Ochsenhirt (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) teamed up to win 8-2 at No. 1 doubles and seniors Brittany Toney (Greenwood, Ind.) and Christina Corbean (Dayton/Oakwood) won 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Kelly lead the Polar Bears in singles play by winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 while Ochsenhirt posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles.
Freshmen Ola Latala (Grosse Ile, Mich.), Kaleigh Cummins (Springfield/Northeastern) and Mackenzie Wills (Ada) won at Nos. 3, 5 and 6 singles, respectively.
Latala won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3, Cummins won 8-3 at No. 5 and Wills won 8-2 at No. 6.
The Polar Bears return to action Friday at 5 pm with a home match against Heidelberg. They will recognize their two seniors, Toney and Corbean, at the University Tennis Courts during Senior Day.
