Letizia sets all-time wins record, Women's tennis celebrates Senior day with wins over Marietta, Muskingum

MASON — Senior Meghan Letizia became the Ohio Northern women's tennis all-time career wins leader and the Polar Bears celebrated Senior Day in style with a pair of victories over Marietta and Muskingum on Saturday at the OAC Tennis Fest at the Lindner Tennis center.
ONU (13-2 overall, 3-1 Ohio Athletic Conference) defeated Marietta (5-12, 1-4) 8-1 on Saturday morning, then topped Muskingum (1-8, 1-5) 9-0 Saturday afternoon.
Letizia posted a 3-1 record on the day, winning at No. 2 and No. 3 singles and once at No. 2 doubles.
She now is ONU's all-time career wins leader with 161 overall wins, surpassing the previous record of 159 set by Kaitlyn MacdDonald from 2005-09.
Letizia also ranks second with 78 singles wins and is second with 83 doubles wins. She needs only two singles wins and one doubles win to tie the school career records in those two categories.
Senior Elise Smith posted a 4-0 record and senior Taryn Stromback was 3-0 on the day.
Stromback also ranks on ONU's all-time career doubles and overall wins lists with 77 doubles wins and 134 overall wins.
The victory over Marietta was also the 300th coaching victory for ONU head coach Scott Wills. Now in his 15th season, Wills has guided Ohio Northern to a 301-78 record, a winning percentage of .794.
The Polar Bears will wrap up play in the OAC Tennis Fest on Sunday morning with as 10 am match against Indiana-East.
