Women's Tennis Head Coach Scott Wills named USPTA Midwest College Coach of The Year
HOUSTON – Ohio Northern Women's Tennis Head Coach Scott Wills has been named the 2015 United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Midwest College Coach of the Year.
Wills was selected for the award among all Midwest NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA coaches.
Wills led Ohio Northern to the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) regular season and tournament championship posting a 21-4 record.
The Polar Bears advanced to the NCAA tournament capturing an NCAA tournament win. He was named OAC Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career.
Entering his 15th year as head coach at Ohio Northern, Wills is third on the all-time wins list in Ohio collegiate tennis history with a 288-76 slate.
He has led the Polar Bears to eight OAC regular season championships and six tournament championships.
During his tenure, Ohio Northern has been a 12 time honoree by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as an Academic All-American team.
Wills is a former recipient of the USPTA's 2010 Fay Tooley Award for Volunteer Service in his role in promoting tennis in the Ada, OH community.
He initiated the Ada Community Tennis Association in 2006. In 2007, Ada served as a pilot program for the USTA Midwest Section for teaching 10 and under youth tennis which has now become the QuickStart tennis program that introduces youth to tennis throughout the country.
Wills will be presented with his award at the USPTA recognition event on August 20th during the upcoming Western and Southern Open professional tennis tournament in Cincinnati.
