Women's Tennis earns runner up spot in OAC Tournament

MASON — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team fell 6-0 to Baldwin-Wallace in the 2011 OAC Women's Tennis Tournament finals, Saturday afternoon at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.
The Polar Bears, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, finish the season as the regular season champions holding a 21-6 overall record.
The No. 2 seeded Yellow Jackets improve to 18-7 overall and receives the OAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament.
B-W swept doubles play to start the day, narrowly picking up the third win at No. 1 doubles. Freshmen Michelle Tuma (Corbourg, Ontario/St. Mary's) and Carly Olmstead (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) made Yellow Jackets Caitlyn Pecinovsky and Rebecca Mittler work for the 8-6 win.
In singles action, Tuma again gave Pecinovsky a hard time in the first set going 7-5 before falling in the next 6-1.
Freshman Emily Mueller (Vermillion/Elyria Catholic) led the Polar Bears this season at singles with a 24-5 overall record. Classmate Kelsi Wurm also made an impact statement this season finishing 20-8 in singles competition.
Mueller and Lauren Rife (North Canton/Hoover) led doubles pairs with a 24-7 mark, including going 10-1 against conference opponents.
ONU now waits to see if it will receive an at-large bid for the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament; the announcement will be made Monday, May 9.
