Women's Tennis blanks Capital 9-0 for first OAC victory of season

ADA -- The Ohio Northern women's tennis team earned its first Ohio Athletic Conference victory of the 2010 season Thursday afternoon, sweeping Capital 9-0 at University Courts.

The Polar Bears (3-6 overall, 1-1 OAC) swept the six singles and the three doubles matches to post the victory.

The Crusaders fall to 0-2, 0-2.

Northern's No. 2 doubles duo of junior Kristen Timperman and senior Mami Ito defeated Crusaders' Melanie DeArdo and Meredith Wedell 8-0.

No. 3 doubles partners Jenna Bittner and Jenny Provost also earned an 8-0 win over CU's Audrey Craig and Corinne Mink.

In singles play, No. 1 Ashley Bonamer beat Capital's Kristen Floss and Timperman defeated No. 3 Melanie DeArdo by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

The Polar Bears will next be in action next Thursday at home against Kenyon.
