Mara Brown leads Women's Swimming and Diving on first day of Calvin (Mich.) Quad Meet

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — Junior Mara Brown (Fremont/Ross) led the Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team on day one of the two-day Calvin (Mich.) Quad Meet at the Venema Aquatic Center.

Meet Highlights
- Brown was fourth in the 200 I.M. in 2:18.31 and was on both of ONU's top finishing relay teams.
- Junior Hannah Eversole (Cincinnati/Mount Notre Dame) placed ninth in the 200 I.M. in 2:24.04.
- In the 50 free, freshman Ashleigh Nelson (Byron Center, Mich.) was 14th in :26.18 and junior Annie Richters (Troy/Miami East) placed 17th in :26.68.
- Senior Kaitlyn Sullivan (Kettering/Fairmont) was 16th in the 500 free in 5:48.66, followed closely in 17th by senior Katie Bend (Carmel, Ind.) in 5:48.96.
- The 200 free relay of Nelson, senior Shelby Starkey (Bellefontaine), Richters and Brown opened the meet with a seventh place finish in 1:46.03.
- The 200 medley relay of Starkey, Brown, freshman Melina Roberts (Westlake) and Nelson ended the day by placing seventh in 4:17.39.
- Calvin (Mich.) leads the team standings with 642 points, Carthage (Wis.) is second with 225 points and Albion (Mich.) is third with 143 points.
Notables
- The meet consists of 20 events, including 13 individual races, five relays and 2 diving events.
- The meet is the fifth of 11 regular season contests for Ohio Northern.
- Austin Veltman is now 23-23 in his sixth season as head coach of the Polar Bears.
