Marissa Taylor, Sofia Vazquez win events to lead Ohio Northern on Day 2 of OAC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships

GENEVA — Senior Marissa Taylor (Granite Falls, N.C./South Caldwell) and freshman Sofia Vazquez (Fulshear, Tex./Tompkins) each won events to lead the Ohio Northern women's swimming & diving team on the second day of the 2021 Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships on Friday at the SPIRE Institute.
The Polar Bears are in third place after day two of the three-day meet with 378 points through 12 of 20 events.
Taylor won the 400 I.M. in 4:43.55 and is now a three-time All-Conference honoree in the event.
Vazquez won the 1-meter diving with a score of 351.30 points.
The top three in the individual events and the top two relay teams earn All-Conference accolades.
Taylor also anchored the 200 medley relay team that finished second in 1:50.44.
Sophomore Shelby Starkey (Bellefontaine), junior Megan Lubinski (Loveland/Brighton) and junior Lauren Shaw (Port Clinton) also earned All-Conference honors on the relay team.
Sophomore Abby Schauer (Beavercreek) was All-OAC with a third place finish in the 400 I.M. in 4:48.36.
John Carroll leads the team standings with 673 points. Mount Union is second with 426 points, Baldwin Wallace is fourth with 290 and Wilmington is fifth with 201 points.
The final eight events will be on Sunday with prelims also beginning at 10 am and finals at 6 pm.
