Lubinski, Starkey lead Women's Swimming & Diving to 187-87 season-opening victory over Wilmington

ADA — Junior Megan Lubinski (Loveland/ Brighton) and sophomore Shelby Starkey (Bellefontaine) won four events each to lead the Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team to a 187-87 season-opening victory over Wilmington at the ONU Sports Center Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears improve to 1-0 overall and are 1-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Quakers fall to 0-1, 0-1.
Lubinski won the 200-yard free in 1:58.89, the 50 free in :25.09 and the 100 free in :54.99. She also combined with freshman Katie Bend (Carmel, Ind.), junior Lauren Shaw (Port Clinton) and Starkey to win the 400 free relay in 3:51.22.
Starkey won the 100 fly in 1:04.75, the 100 back in 1:01.64 and was on the 400 free relay team.
She was also the leadoff leg in the winning 200 medley relay with Schauer, sophomore Mya Parsons (Castle Rock, Colo./Arapahoe) and freshman Gabbie Grant (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) in
Senior Marissa Taylor (Granite Falls, N.C./South Caldwell) won the 500 free in 5:35.96 and the 200 I.M. in 2:22.06.
Sophomore Abby Schauer (Beavercreek) won the 100 breast in 1:15.00 and tied for top honors in the 50 back in :30.07.
Sophomore Maddy Markwood (Anchor Bay, Mich.) won the 50 breast in :32.98.
Freshman Sofia Vazquez (Fulshear, Tex./Tompkins) won the 3-meter diving unopposed with 316.45 poiunts for 11 dives.
The Polar Bears will return to action next Saturday when they host Baldwin Wallace on Senior Day.
