Women’s Swimming & Diving downs Oberlin, falls to Kenyon in tri-meet

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team had plenty to cheer about Friday during a tri-meet featuring Kenyon and Oberlin. The Polar Bears downed the Yoewomen 136-77, but fell to the Laddies 136-54.
The results pushed Northern's dual record to 3-2 on the season. ONU enjoyed numerous top-two finishes.
The 200-yard medley relay team — of freshman Abby Schauer (Beavercreek), freshman Madeline Markwood (Anchor Bay), senior Kyley Stuart (Ada) and freshman Gabrielle Grant (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) — started the meet off with a second-place finish, clocking in at 1:57.49.
Sophomore Megan Lubinski (Milford/Brighton) touched second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.66. She also added a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 56.14.
Junior Marissa Taylor (Granite Falls, N.C./South Caldwell) took second in the 1000-yard freestyle, recording a time of 11:37.90.
Freshman Shelby Starkey (Bellefontaine) placed runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly, registering a time of 1:03.77.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team — consisting of Lubinski, sophomore Lauren Shaw (Port Clinton/Port Clinton), Grant and Starkey — closed the meet much like it began, placing second with a time of 1:44.65.
ONU closes out its 2019-20 home slate Saturday at 1 p.m. against Mount Union.
