Starkey wins twice as Women's Swimming and Diving falls to John Carroll 170-91

ADA — Freshman Shelby Starkey (Bellefontaine) won the 100- and 200-yard backstroke en route to leading the Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team in a 170-91 defeat against John Carroll Saturday at the ONU Sports Center Natatorium.
Starkey won the 100 back in 1:02.11 and the 200 back in 2:14.78 for the Polar Bears (1-1 OAC).
JCU moves to 1-0.
Sophomore Megan Lubinski (Milford/Brighton) and freshman Abby Schauer (Beavercreek) also won events for ONU.
Lubinksi won the 50 free in 26.03 and Schauer won the 200 IM in 2:19.30.
Additionally, Lubinski was second in the 100 free in 57.54 and Schauer was second in the 200 back in 2:16.68.
Starkey, Lubinksi, Schauer, and senior Kyley Stuart (Ada) teamed up for a second place finish in the 200 medley relay, touching in 1:55.38.
Junior Marissa Taylor (Granite Falls, N.C./South Caldwell) was second in the 500 free in 5:34.36 and senior Katelyn Koebel (Port Clinton) placed second in the 200 breast in 2:39.03.
Senior Katey Stuart (Ada) earned a pair of third-place finishes. She finished the 100 breast in 1:13.52 and the 200 breast in 2:40.73.
Ohio Northern returns to the pool Nov. 8 and 9 at the Calvin (Mich.) Quad.
