Women's Swimming & Diving sits third after day one at the OAC Championships

AKRON — The Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving program registered 157 team points and four All-Ohio Athletic Conference accolades Thursday evening during the first day of the 2019 OAC Swimming and Diving Championships at Ocasek Natatorium in Akron.
Through five events, the Polar Bears sit third in the team standings. John Carroll currently leads the meet with 228 points, and Mount Union stands second with 179 points.
Freshman Megan Lubinski (Milford/Brighton), sophomore Kaity Kelly (Fremont/Ross), junior Kyley Stuart (Ada), and senior Kierra Watson (Brownsburg, Ind.) kicked off the evening with a runner-up finish in the 200-yard free relay in 1:39.42 to earn All-OAC kudos.
From there, Lubinski went on to claim her second All-OAC honor in the 50 free, securing third with a :24.84 touch.
In the 200 IM, Watson and junior Lauren Halle (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) claimed All-OAC honors with second- and third-place marks, respectively. Watson clocked a 2:08.79 while Halle posted a 2:11.18.
Watson, junior Katey Stuart (Ada), Halle, and Lubinski capped the first day with a third-place effort in the 400 medley relay in 4:01.36.
Meanwhile, sophomore Marissa Taylor (Granite Falls, N.C./South Caldwell) took sixth in the 500 free event in 5:19.85.
The three-day OAC Swimming and Diving Championships will resume tomorrow morning with preliminary rounds scheduled at 10 a.m. and finals scheduled for 6 p.m. inside Ocasek Natatorium. The championships will conclude Saturday with 11 a.m. preliminary rounds and finals beginning at 5:45 p.m.
