Lauren Halle shatters 400 I.M. record, leads Women's Swimming & Diving on Day 2 of 2017 OAC Championships

AKRON — Freshman Lauren Halle (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) shattered the school record in the 400 I.M. to lead the Ohio Northern women on the second day of the 2017 Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships on Friday at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.
Halle was second in the 400 I.M. in 4:36.57, breaking the previous record by 3.61 seconds, to earn All-OAC honors.
Her time also bettered the NCAA "B" Cut standard of 4:36.69.
Sophomore Kierra Watson (Brownsburg, Ind.) earned All-Conference honors in the 100 back in :58.98.
Junior Sydney Veon (Riverside, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) was third in the 100 breast in 1:06.28 to earn All-OAC kudos.
ONU also earned All-OAC accolades in the 200 medley relay, as Watson senior Molly Wheeler (Sylvania/Northview), freshman Kyley Stuart (Ada) and Veon were second in 1:48.00.
Ohio Northern is in third place of seven teams with 371.5 points through 13 of 20 events.
John Carroll leads the team standings with 581.5 points, Mount Union is second with 429.5 points and Baldwin Wallace is fourth with 289.5 points.
The top three finishers in each individual event and the top two relay teams earn All-Conference honors.
The Polar Bears are gunning for their eighth OAC Championships crown under 13th-year head coach Peggy Ewald.
The final day of the three-day championships is Saturday with prelims at 10 am and finals at 5:30 pm.
