Chapman wins 50 free to lead Women's Swimming & Diving into first place after Day 1 of 2016 OAC Championships

AKRON — Junior Jill Chapman won the 50 free to lead the Ohio Northern women's swimming & diving team into first place out of seven teams after Day 1 of the three-day 2016 Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday evening at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.
The Polar Bears have 188 points through five of the 20 events, holding a slim lead over John Carroll (186) and Mount Union (185).
Those three teams were OAC Regular Season tri-champions and are nearly even after the first day of the three-day Championships meet.
Chapman won the event in an NCAA "B" Cut :23.79. She has already posted a :23.65 time earlier in the season and entered the meet ranked 15th nationally in the event.
The victory marked her first OAC title and her third All-Conference accolade in the event.
Sophomore Sydney Veon also earned All-OAC kudos with a third place finish in the event in :24.48.
The top three finishers in individual races and the two two relay teams earn All-OAC honors.
Senior Allison Lohnes posted her third consecutive All-OAC performance in the 200 I.M., finishing second in a school record 2:08.79. She broke her own school record of 2:09.08 set in
Northern opened the meet by winning the 200 free relay title for the third consecutive year as junior Emily Uhrin, Kohnes, Veon and Chapman touched in 1:35.92, just .03 of a second off the school record.
Lohnes, freshman Lauren Chaney, freshman Alyson Rohrer and Chapman earned All-Conference honors by finishing second in the 400 medley relay in 4:00.15.
Day two of the OAC Championships will get underway at 11 am on Friday.
