Women's Swimming & Diving is fourth of 10 teams after Day 1 of Wooster Invitational

WOOSTER — The Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team sits in fourth place out of 10 teams after the first day of the three-day Wooster Invitational on Thursday at Wooster High School Natatorium.
The Polar Bears have 289.5 points through five of the 20 events.
No. 35-ranked Case Western Reserve is first with 427 points, NCAA Division II Gannon (Pa.) is second with 407 points and Division I Edinboro (Pa.) is third with 340 points.
Only three individual events were held on Thursday, with junior Jill Chapman leading the way for Ohio Northern.
An NCAA Championships qualifier last year in the event, she won the 50 free in and NCAA "B" Cut time of :23.65.
Senior Allison Lohnes finished third in the 200 I.M. in 2:10.33 and freshman Lauren Chaney was sixth in the race in 2:14.06.
In the 500 free, sophomore Hailee Sautter led ONU with a 20th place finish in 5:25.55.
Sophomore Sydney Veon, Lohnes, junior Molly Wheeler and Chapman started the meet with a second place finish in the 200 free relay in 1:35.95.
In the final event of the evening, Lohnes, Veon, Chaney and Chapman touched fifth in the 400 medley relay in 4:02.58.
Day two of the meet will be Friday with prelims at 10 am and finals at 6 pm and will consist of seven swimming events and one diving event.
Saturday's finals will have six swimming events and the final diving event.
