PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Senior Cael Vanderhorst (Covington) won the prestigious Elite 90 Award at the NCAA III Wrestling Championships on Saturday night.
Vanderhorst is just the second Ohio Northern wrestler to win the award and is just the fifth Polar Bear in any sport to win the honor.
The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships.
Vanderhorst went 0-2 at the tournament at 149 pounds on Friday.
He finishes his season 29-11 and has a career record of 77-26.
Vanderhorst joins Cody Lovejoy (2014, 15) as the only ONU wrestlers to win the honor.
In all, five different Polar Bears across four sports have won the honor a total of seven times.
