No. 16 Wrestling concludes its season at 2025 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The No. 16-ranked Ohio Northern wrestling team finished its season at the 2025 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships on Friday.

The Basics
- Records: #16 Ohio Northern (16-7 Overall)
- Venue: Amica Mutual Pavilion - Providence, RI.
- Friday's sessions were sessions one and two of four. Session three will be Saturday morning at 10 am EDT, and the final session will be Saturday evening at 7pm EDT.
- The top 8 placers in each weight class earn All-American honors.
ONU Individuals
- Senior Teagan Hendricks (Jamestown/Greeneview) finished 2-2 in the tournament at 165 pounds.
- He fell in the second round of the Championship bracket to Christopher Stathopoulos (Stevens) by decision 6-3.
- Hendricks then won in the second round of the consolation bracket by decision 4-2 to Josh Heuss (Wis.-Stevens Point).
- He won his next match by decision 3-1 to Mark Troni (Wash. & Lee) in the third consolation round.
- Hendricks then fell in the fourth consolation round by decision 4-1 to Nicholas Sacco (TCNJ).
- Hendricks finishes an incredible season with a 33-15 record and his career with a 113-49 mark.
- Senior Adam Myers (Springfield/STEM Academy) went 1-2 at 174 pounds.
- He fell in round two of the Championship bracket to LJ Richardson (Coe) by technical fall 18-2.
- Myers won in the third round of the consolation bracket by major decision over Cam Hines (Western New Eng.)
- He fell in the fourth round of the consolation bracket to Zeb Gnida (Loras) by decision 9-2.
- Myers finishes his successful season with a 20-11 record and his career with a 90-46 mark.
- Senior #14 ranked Gavin Layman (Chesterton, Ind.) went 1-2 in the tournament at 197 pounds.
- Layman lost Friday morning in the Championship bracket to Will Davis (Elizabethtown) by major decision 15-2.
- He then won round one of the consolation bracket by decision 7-6 to beat Bryce McCloskey (Mount Union).
- Layman fell in the second round of the consolation bracket to Ian Pepple (Wis.-Eau Claire) by major decision 11-3.
- He finishes his season 31-9 and ends his career at 125-51.
- Freshman #13 ranked Myles Johnson (Springboro) went 1-2 at the tournament at 285 pounds.
- He won Friday morning in the first round of the championship bracket, beating Caleb Burkhart (Wilkes) by tech fall 18-2.
- Johnson lost in round one of the championship bracket to Austin Cooley (Schreiner) by major decision 14-6.
- Johnson then fell in the consolation second round to Mauro Pellot (Alvernia) by major decision 18-9.
- He finishes his season with a 39-6 record.
- Senior #2 ranked All-American Jacob Reed (Canal Winchester/Lancaster) finished the tournament with an 0-2 record at 141 pounds.
- Reed lost in the second round of the championship bracket to Sean Conway (Chicago) by sudden victory 4-1.
- He then fell in the consolation round to Jake Eckerle (JWU) by decision 9-5.
- Reed finishes his season 32-3 and a career record of 148-10.
- Senior Cael Vanderhorst (Covington) went 0-2 at the tournament at 149 pounds.
- He lost Friday morning in round two of the championship bracket to Kyler Romero (Wartburg) by decision 8-5.
- Vanderhorst then fell to Thomas Monn (McDaniel) by major decision 13-0 on Friday afternoon
- Vanderhorst finishes his season 29-11 and has a career record of 77-26.
Notables
- Reed is 2nd all-time in ONU wrestling history in career wins with a 148-10 record.
- Myers, Johnson, and Vanderhorst all were making their first NCAA Championships apperance.
- Layman is making his third appearance at the NCAA Championships.
- Hendricks is making his second NCAA Championships appearance.
- Ohio Northern head coach Ron Beaschler is in his 37th season and has a 407-264-4 dual meet record, a winning percentage of .605.
