ALLIANCE — The No. 14-ranked Ohio Northern wrestling team opened the home and Ohio Athletic Conference portion of its schedule with a 32-9 victory over Mount Union on Saturday night.

The Basics

  • Senior All-American and No. 2-ranked Jacob Reed (Canal Winchester/Lancaster) and senior Jayden Jones (Ashland) each posted first oeriod pins to lead the Polar Bears.
  • Reed won in 43 seconds at the 141-pound weight class and Jones won in 52 seconds at 157.
  • Senior Cael Vanderhorst (Covington) won 4-0 at 149 to give ONU a 9-6 lead.
  • Jones' pin made it 15-6.
  • Senior Nick Campbell (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) mon a major decision at 165 to increase the lead to 19-9.
  • Junior Ajay Locke (Lancaster) won by forfeit at 184 to make it 25-9.
  • No. 8-ranked senior Gavin Layman (Chesterton, Ind.) won by decision at 197 2-1 in overtime over No. 7-ranked Bryce McCloskey of Mount Union in a battle of top-10 wrestlers.
  • Freshman Myles Johnson (Springboro) wrapped up the dual with a 14-6 major decision at heavyweight.
