No. 14 Wrestling opens 2024-25 season with third place finish at Mount Union Invitational

ALLIANCE — The No. 14-ranked Ohio Northern wrestling team opened its 2024-25 season with a 3rd place finish at the Mount Union Invitational on Saturday.
The Basics
- Records: #14 Ohio Northern (0-0 Overall).
- ONU finished third of ten teams with 153 points.
- Venue: McPherson Athletics Center - Alliance, Ohio.
- Gannon (Pa.) won the team title with 212 points, West Liberty State (W.Va.) was second with 172.5 points and Ferrum (Va.) was fourth with 99.5 points.
ONU Individuals
- Senior All-American and No. 2-ranked Jacob Reed (Canal Winchester/Lancaster) won in the 141-pound weight class with a 4-0 record.
- Senior Teagan Hendricks (Jamestown/Greeneview) placed 2nd with a 4-1 record at 165.
- Senior Jayden Jones (Ashland) placed 3rd at 157. Jones begins his season with a 3-1 record.
- Senior Cael Vanderhorst (Covington) placed 3rd at 149. Vanderhorst starts his season with a 6-1 record.
- Junior Ajay Locke (Lancaster) placed 3rd with a 4-1 record at 184.
- Senior Dylan Le (Dublin/Scioto) placed 4th at 133 with a 3-2 record.
- Senior Nick Campbell (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) went 3-2 and placed 4th at 165.
- Freshman Myles Johnson (Springboro) placed 4th with a 2-1 record at 285.
- Fresham Ryan Foster (Ross) placed 5th and went 4-2. Foster begins his season with a 4-2 record.
- Freshman Chase Vanderhorst (Covington) went 4-2 and placed 5th at 133.
- Sophmore Flint Guerra (Lebanon) placed 6th and went 3-3 at 157.
- Junior Gabe Hansen (Richwood/North Union) went 4-3 and placed 6th at 141.
- Senior Colin Mellott (Wapakoneta) went 4-2 and placed 7th at 125.
- Freshman Ethan Bartlett (Newbury/West Geauga) went 3-2 and placed 7th at 157.
- Senior Adam Myers (Springfield/STEM Academy) placed 8th with a 4-3 record at 174.
- Sophmore Anthony Lahoski (Peninsula/Woodridge) 2-2 in the 165 weight class and placed 8th.
- Freshman Casper Caizzo (Richwood/North Union) went 2-3 and placed 8th at 149.
Notables
- The Polar Bears had 17 wrestlers place in the top eight across the 10 weight classes.
- Reed is a three-time All-American at 141 pounds.
- Reed also moves up to 6th all-time in ONU wrestling history in career wins with a 120.
- Ohio Northern head coach Rob Beaschler is in his 37th season and has a 391-257-4 dual meet record, a winning percentage of .603.
