Junior wrestler Gavin Layman named Third Team Academic All-America by College Sports Communicators

ADA — Ohio Northern junior Gavin Layman (Chesterton, Ind.) was named Third Team Academic All-America At-Large Team by College Sports Communicators.
Layman competes in wrestling at Ohio Northern.
To be eligible for Academic All-America honors, each student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 GPA and met the participation requirements of their respective sports.
In lacrosse, student/athletes must have either played in at least 90 percent of his team's competitions or started 66 percent of them. In wrestling and golf, the student/athlete must have competed in at least 70 percent of the team's scoring events.
The CSC's at-large sports include fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
Layman is a two-time NCAA Championships qualifier. He is also a two-time All-OAC First Team, two-time Academic All-OAC and two-time CSC Academic All-District selection.
This season Layman went 34-12 with 7 pins at 184 pounds. He is 94-44 overall in three seasons at ONU.
Layman is majoring in computer science.
He is the third Ohio Northern wrestler to earn Academic All-America honors, joining Luke Miller (2010,11) and Cody Lovejoy (2013,14,15) on that list.
