Six Polar Bears named to College Sports Communicators Men’s Academic All-District At-Large Team

ADA — Ohio Northern fifth-year senior Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.), senior John Lynn (Cincinnati/Sycamore), juniors Teagan Hendricks (Jamestown/Greenview), Gavin Layman (Chesterton, Ind.) and Adam Myers (Springfield/Shawnee) and sophomore Bennett Christy (Plymouth, Ind.) were named to the 2024 Men's Academic All-District At-Large Team by College Sports Communicators.
Zaferakis and Lynn are members of the ONU men's lacrosse team, Hendricks, Layman and Myers are Polar Bear wrestlers and Christy is a golfer at Ohio Northern.
To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, each student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 GPA and met the participation requirements of their respective sports.
In lacrosse, student/athletes must have either played in at least 90 percent of his team's competitions or started 66 percent of them. In wrestling and golf, the student/athlete must have competed in at least 70 percent of the team's scoring events.
The CSC's at-large sports include fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
Zaferakis is a three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree and has started 74 career games in goal.
He holds many school records, including a 48-25 record and 591 saves in his career.
Last season, he was also a CSC Academic All-District honoree.
Zaferakis is majoring in Writing and Multimedia Studies.
Lynn is a two-time All-OAC award winner and was named Academic All-OAC this spring.
In 54 career starts in the midfield, Lynn scored 55 goals, dished out 36 assists and 91 career points.
Lynn is majoring in Construction Management.
Hendricks qualified for the NCAA Championships this season and is a two-time Academic All-OAC selection, finishing 27-10 with 10 pins at 165 pounds.
In three years at ONU, he is 80-36 overall with 30 pins.
Hendricks is majoring in computer engineering.
Layman is a two-time NCAA Championships qualifier. He is also a two-time All-OAC First Team, two-time Academic All-OAC and two-time CSC Academic All-District selection.
This season Layman went 34-12 with 7 pins at 184 pounds. He is 94-44 overall in three seasons at ONU.
Layman is majoring in computer science.
Myers was named First Team All-Conference and is a two-time Academic All-OAC and CSC Academic All-District selection. This season, he posted a 29-13 record at 174 pounds.
He now has a career mark of 68-34 with 17 pins.
Myers earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Ohio Northern in 2023 and is now enrolled in ONU's law school.
Christy earned All-Conference honors this spring by finishing eighth at the 2024 OAC Championships.
He was second on the team this season with a 77.4 average for 20 rounds. In 40 career rounds, Christy has a 77.7 average.
Christy is majoring in finance.
