Junior Gavin Layman named OAC Wrestler of the Week

ADA — Ohio Northern junior Gavin Layman (Chesterton, Ind.) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week for the week of Jan. 8-14.

Layman went 5-0 on the weekend at 184 pounds, leading the No. 22-ranked Polar Bears to a fifth place finish at the 16-team Lycoming (Pa.) Budd Whithill Duals.

He had two pins and a tech fall and is now 22-8 on the season. He was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Ohio Northern defeated #23 Springfield (Mass.) 21-18 and Ithaca 26-25 on Saturday.

The Polar Bears finished second in Group D on Friday, defeating York (Pa.) 39-7 and #21 Lycoming 32-12 and falling to Washington & Lee (Va.) 23-16.

Layman is the second ONU player to earn the award this season.

The Polar Bears will return to action Tuesday evening when they host OAC foe Muskingum at 7 p.m. at the ONU Sports Center.
