No. 22 Wrestling finishes fifth at Lycoming (Pa.) Duals; tops Ithaca (N.Y.) and No. 23 Springfield (Mass.) on Saturday
WILIAMSPORT, Pa. — The No. 22-ranked Ohio Northern wrestling team finished in fifth place at the Lycoming (Pa.) Budd Whitehill Duals at Lamade Gymnasium on Saturday.
Northern finished with a 4-1 record, going 2-0 on Saturday and 2-1 on Friday.
Senior Jadon Brownlee (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) had a first period pin at Heavyweight to ease an 18-15 deficit and give the Polar Bears a 21-18 victory in the fifth place match against #23 Springfield (Mass.) on Saturday afternoon.
ONU defeated Ithaca on Saturday morning 26-25 to reach the fifth place match. The contest was tied at 25-all after the 10 weight class bouts, but Ohio Northern won the tiebreaker point by having three 6-point wins to just two for IC.
The Polar Bears finished second in Group D on Friday, defeating York (Pa.) 39-7 and #21 Lycoming 32-12 and falling to Washington & Lee (Va.) 23-16.

ONU Individuals
- Junior Gavin Layman (Chesterton, Ind.) went 5-0 on the weekend at 184 pounds. He had two pins and a tech fall and is now 22-8 on the season. He was named to the All-Tournament Team.
- Layman was named to the All-Tournament Team as the Most Outstanding Wrestler at 184 pounds.
- Junior Dylan Le (Dublin/Scioto) and sophomore Colton Spurgeon (Mount Vernon) each went 4-1 on the weekend.
- Le was a pin, a tech fall and a major decision at 133 to improve to 20-10.
- Spurgeon was 4-1 with two pins at 149 and is now 15-12 on the year.
- Sophomore Ajay Locke (Lancaster) was 3-1 on the weekend with a pair of major decisions at 197. He is now 13-7 on the season.
- Brownlee finished the tournament with a 3-2 record with a pair of pins and is now 14-14 on the year.

- The Polar Bears will return to Ohio Athletic Conference action on Tuesday when they host Muskingum in a 7 pm match at the ONU Sports Center.
