ADA — The No. 13-ranked Ohio Northern wrestling team opened the home and Ohio Athletic Conference portions of its schedule with a 24-15 victory over John Carroll on Saturday at the ONU Sports Center.

The Basics

  • Records: Ohio Northern 1-0, 1-0 OAC; John Carroll 0-1, 0-1.
  • Venue: ONU Sports Center, Ada, Ohio.

ONU Individuals

  • Junior Colin Mellott (Wapakoneta) won by default at 125 pounds to give ONU a quick 6-0 lead.
  • Junor Dylan Le (Dublin/Scioto), who is ranked No. 15 nationally at 133, followed with a 9-3 decision.
  • Junior two-time All-American and No. 2 ranked Jacob Reed (Canal Winchester/Lancaster) made it 15-0 with a first period fall in 3:00 at 141.
  • JCU then won at 149 and 157 to pull within 15-9.
  • Junior Teagan Hendricks (Jamestown/Greenview) won by decision 9-6 at 165 pounds to give ONU an 18-9 advantage.
  • No. 6-ranked junior Gavin Layman (Chesterton, Ind.) won 3-0 at 184 and Northern led 21-12.
  • Freshman Cole Williams (Cumming, Ga./South Forsyth) iced the victory with a 9-6 decision at 197 pounds.
