ADA — Sophomore Jacob Reed (Lancaster) and senior Regan Landis (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) have been selected as the Ohio Northern athletic department's Polar Bear of the Month award winners for March.
Reed capped off a spectacular sophomore season with his second straight third-place finish at the NCAA Championships, making him a two-time All-American. The No. 2 seed in the 141-pound bracket, Reed went 4-1 over the course of the two-day, double-elimination tournament to close the year with a 44-1 record.
Reed, the Central Region champion at 141 pounds, became the fifth two-time All-American in program history and was also named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference First Team as the OAC Wrestler of the Year.
A three-time OAC Wrestler of the Week and an Academic All-OAC honoree this season, Reed was also named Polar Bear of the Month for December.
He will enter his junior season with a career record of 87-6 for a winning percentage of .935.
Landis helped lead the women's tennis team to an 8-2 record in March, including a perfect 5-0 mark during its spring break trip in Florida.
Landis posted a 9-1 record in singles play in March, including 2-0 at No. 3, 6-1 at No. 4 and 1-0 at No. 5. She was also 1-1 at No. 3 doubles for an overall mark of 10-2 during the month.
Her month was highlighted by her match-clinching singles victory against Macalester (Minn.) in Florida. After fighting off six match points by her opponent, Landis won 13-11 in a third-set tiebreaker after 3.5 hours to hand the Polar Bears the 5-4 victory.
Landis is now 15-7 overall this season, including 12-4 in singles play and 3-3 in doubles.
A two-time All-OAC Second Team honoree, Landis owns a career record of 92-31.
The Polar Bears (12-3 overall, 3-0 OAC) are coming off Monday's 6-3 victory at John Carroll that extended their current win streak to nine. They are set to host Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
