Hardrick, Le, Layman all reach semifinals on day one of Wheaton (Ill.) Invitational

WHEATON, Ill. —Senior Jordan Hardrick (Dayton/Wayne) and sophomores Dylan Le (Powell/Dublin Scioto) and Gavin Layman (Chesterton, Ind.) reached the semifinals of their respective weight classes to lead the No. 18-ranked Ohio Northern wrestling team on the first day of the Wheaton (Ill.) Pete Willson Invitational on Friday at King Arena.
Hardrick (165 pounds), Le (133) and Layman (184) have all guaranteed a top-6 placement on Saturday's second and final day of competition.
The Polar Bears (19-3 overall) are sixth of 30 teams with 53 points despite giving three starters the weekend off.
Hardrick and Layman each have 3-0 records and Le is 2-0 after receiving a first round bye.
Senior Ben DePrest (Louisville, Ky./Saint Xavier) and sophomore Cael Vanderhorst (Covington) are each one victory away from guaranteeing themselves a top-8 finish.
DePrest is 3-1 at 197 and Vanderhorst is 2-1 at 141.
The final day of the double-elimination tournament will begin on Sunday at 11 am (CST).
