Seven Wrestlers named Division III Scholar All-Americans by NWCA

ADA — Seven Ohio Northern student-athletes were named Division III Scholar All-Americans by the National Wrestling Coaches Association for 2021-22.
Senior Jordan Hardrick (Dayton/Wayne), juniors Ben DePrest (Louisville, Ky./Saint Xavier) and Chase Sumner (Ada) and freshmen Teagan Hendricks (Jamestown/Greenview), Adam Myers (Springfield/STEM Academy), Jacob Reed (Canal Winchester/Lancaster) and Cael Vanderhorst (Covington) were all among the 325 wrestlers representing 87 institutions to receive the honor.
Ohio Northern finished 13th in the team rankings with a team GPA of 3.64.
Hardrick went 34-10 this year and was named All-Ohio Athletic Conference at 165 pounds.
He won his weight class at the Wilkes (Pa.) Invitational and was fifth at the NCAA III Central Regionals.
In four seasons as a Polar Bear, Hardrick has a 75-37 overall record with eight pins.
DePrest was named All-OAC and Academic All-OAC with a 23-10 record at Heavyweight this season.
He placed seventh at the NCAA Central Regionals and will enter his senior season next winter with a 37-23 record with 10 pins.
Sumner finished the season with a 17-6 record, placed second at the NCAA III Central Regionals and went 1-2 at the NCAA III Championships.
In three seasons at ONU, Sumner is 57-12 with 24 falls and is a two-time NCAA Qualifier.
Hendricks went 24-13 with nine pins in his rookie campaign at 157 pounds and placed in three tournaments during the season.
Myers was 17-10 with six falls at 184 pounds in 2021-22. He placed fifth at the Wilkes (Pa.) Invitational.
Reed earned All-America honors at 141 pounds with a third place finish at the NCAA III Championships.
He was second at the NCAA III Central Regionals and was named All-OAC.
Reed won the first three tournaments of his career - the Mount Union Invitational, the ONU Invitational and the Wilkes Invitational.
He finished the year with a 43-5 record and 13 pins.
Reed was also named the Freshman of the Year by D3wrestle.com.
Vanderhorst posted a 22-6 record and five pins wrestling alonside Reed at 141 pounds.
He won the Mid-States Invitational, was second at the Wilkes Invitational and was third at the Baldwin Wallace Invitational.
The Polar Bears went 13-5 overall and were third in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 4-2 record under 32nd-year head coach Ron Beaschler.
