Wrestling wins Pool B, tops York (Pa.) 31-12 and Ferrum (Va.) 45-6, on Day 1 of Lycoming (Pa.) Budd Whitehill Duals

ADA — Freshman Jacob Reed (Canal Winchester/Lancaster) had two pins to lead the Ohio Northern wrestling team to a pair of victories on the first day of the Lycoming (Pa.) Budd Whitehill National Duals at Lamade Gymnasium.

The Polar Bears (9-3 overall) extended their dual meet winning streak to nine matches with a 31-12 win over York (Pa.) and a 45-6 victory over Ferrum (Va.) to win Pool B.

Northern will now advance to the Championship round on Saturday and will face No. 24-ranked Castleton (Vt.) in the semifinals at 9 am.

The other semifinal match will feature No. 25 Ithaca (N.Y.) and Washington & Lee (Va.)

The championship and third place matches will take place at Noon.

Reed, who is ranked No. 14 nationally at 141 pounds, improves to a team-best 23-1 on the season.

Junior Logan Painter (Marysville/Early College) had a pin and a tech fall at heavyweight to go 2-0.

Reed, Painter, junior Chase Sumner (Ada), senior Schuyler Caprella (Bluffton/Allen East) and freshman Nick Campbell (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) also went 2-0 on the day for ONU.

Northern also has a junior varsity team competing in the tournament and had an outstanding day from freshman Cael Vanderhorst (Covington) at 141 pounds. Vanderhorst defeated No. 12-ranked James Rodriguez of Castleton 3-1 and won by tech fall 15-0 over Collin Rolak of Wilkes (Pa.)
