Wrestling opens 2021-22 season with solid third place finish at Mount Union Invitational

ALLIANCE — Sixteen Ohio Northern wrestlers placed in their respective weight classes to lead the Polar Bears to a solid third place finish at the Mount Union Invitational in the team's season-opening event on Saturday at the Peterson Fieldhouse.
Freshman Jacob Reed (Canal Winchester/Lancaster) led the Polar Bears by winning the 141-pound weight class with a 4-0 record and two falls.
Senior Schuyler Caprella (Bluffton/Allen East) was second at 165 pounds with a 4-1 mark.
Senior Cash Thompson (Lake Odessa, Mich./Lakewood) and junior Ben DePrest (Louisville, Ky./aint Xavier) each finished third at 197 and heavyweight, respectively. Thompson finished with a 3-1 record, while DePrest was 5-1 on the day.
Freshman Nick Campbell (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) was fourth at 165 and Brodie Stevens (Swanton) was fourth at Heavyweight with 4-2 marks.
No. 7-ranked (NCAA Division II) Ashland won the team title with 188.5 points, No. 22 Mount Union was second with 140 points, Ohio Northern was third with 124.5 points and Brockport State (N.Y.) was fourth with 106.5 points.
Two more nationally ranked NCAA Division II schools, No. 5-ranked West Liberty State (W.Va.) and No. 7 Gannon (Pa.) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday at the Adrian (Mich.) Duals.
