Transue, Sumner win weight class crowns, lead Wrestling to team title at 16-team Waynesburg (Pa.) Invitational

WAYNESBURG, Pa. — Senior Seth Transue (Plain City/Jerome) and freshman Chase Sumner (Ada) each won weight class titles to lead the Ohio Northern wrestling to a team victory at the Waynesburg (Pa.) Invitational on Saturday at Marisa Fieldhouse.
Transue, who is ranked No. 22 in the latest D3wrestle.com rankings, went 4-0 to win the title at 133 pounds, improving his record to a team-best 21-2 on the season.
Sumner improved to 19-4 on the season and finished with a 4-0 record to win the crown at 149 pounds.
The Polar Bears won the 16-team tournament with 137 points. Lake Erie was second with 81.5 points, Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) was third with 74 points and Alvernia (Pa.) was fourth with 72.5 points.
In all, 11 Ohio Northern wrestlers placed in the top six in their respective weight classes.
Sophomore Jordan Hardrick (Huber Heights/Wayne) was second at 165 pounds with a 3-1 record and sophomore Shaun Wagner (Southington, Conn.) was second at 157 pounds with a 3-1 mark.
Seniors Jeff Andrews (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) and Brandon Bartlome (Sheffield Village/Lorain) and No. 10-ranked junior Cash Thompson (Lake Odessa, Mich./Lakewood) placed third at 141, 133 and 197 pounds, respectively.
Andrews finished 4-1, Bartlome was 5-1 and Thompson was 3-1 on the day.
Junior Schuyler Caprella (Harrod/Allen East) was fourth at 157 with a 5-1 mark and sophomore Connor Kwiat (Bloomville/Tiffin Calvert) was fourth at 174 pounds with a 4-2 record.
Freshman Camden Spears (Plainfield, Ind.) placed fifth at1 25 pounds with a 3-2 mark and freshman Logan Painter (Marysville/Early Colllege) was sixth at 197 pounds with a 2-3 record.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Tuesday with a 7 pm non-conference dual match at Mount Saint Joseph.
