WESTERVILLE — The Ohio Northern wrestling team got off to a good start Tuesday night at Otterbein, but couldn't hold on. The Polar Bears fell to the Cardinals 30-15 inside the Rike Center.
The loss dropped the Polar Bears to 6-4 on the season and 0-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference play. The win improved Otterbein to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Freshman Camden Spears (Plainfield, Ind.) gave Northern the start it was looking for at 125 pounds. He pinned Otterbein's Chase Nelson in 1:09 to give the Polar Bears a 6-0 victory.
After a couple victories for the Cardinals, freshman Chase Sumner (Ada) put ONU back out ahead at 149. He pinned Jacob Williams in 2:24, which made it 12-6 in favor of the road squad.
No. 26-ranked sophomore Connor Kwiat (Bloomville/Tiffin Calvert) vaulted Northern out in front, once again, at 165. With the team score tied at 12, Kwiat claimed an 8-2 decision win over Donny Didion, which gave the Polar Bears a 15-12 edge.
