Cash Thompson wins 197-pound weight class title to lead Wrestling at season-opening Mount Union Invitational

ADA — Junior Cash Thompson (Lake Odessa, Mich./Lakewood) won the 197-pound weight class title to lead the Ohio Northern wrestling team at the season-opening Mount Union Invitational on Saturday at the Peterson Field House.
Thompson posted a 3-0 record with a pair of major decisions and defeated Chris Droege of Lake Erie 3-1 in the finals.
There were no teams scores in the tournament.
Six other Polar Bears placed in the top six of their weight classes.
Senior Seth Transue (Plain City/Jerome) was second at 133 pounds with a 2-1 record.
Junior Schuyler Caprella (Harrod/Allen East) was third at 157 with a 3-1 mark.
Senior Jeff Andrews (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) was fifth at 141, going 4-1 on the day.
Senior Brandon Bartlome (Sheffield Village/Lorain), sophomore Jordan Hardrick (Huber Heights/Wayne) and freshman Chase Sumner (Ada) finished sixth in the 141, 165 and 149 weight classes, respecitvely.
The Polar Bears will return to action on next Saturday at the Adrian (Mich.) Duals.
