Wrestling wraps up OAC dual slate with 46-6 loss at No. 5 Baldwin Wallace

BEREA — The Ohio Northern wrestling program dropped a 46-6 decision to No. 5-ranked Baldwin Wallace on Friday evening in its 2018-19 Ohio Athletic Conference dual finale inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse.
With the loss, the Polar Bears finish the dual season 6-9 overall and 1-5 against the conference circuit. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets improve to 14-2 overall and 5-1 in league action.
No. 19-ranked senior Clayton Davidson (Kirtland) supplied the lone victory Friday evening, pinning Baldwin Wallace's Ryan Orr in 2:48 at 174. With the win, he improves to 28-7 overall this season and leads the program with eight pins.
The Kirtland native now owns a 113-47 record in his collegiate career, placing him seventh on the all-time wins list at ONU.
Following two Ohio Northern forfeits at 125 and 133, the Yellow Jackets rattled off four consecutive victories to build a commanding 32-0 lead.
Davidson cut the lead to 32-6 with his victory at 174, but the home side sealed the conference victory with bonus-point wins at 184, 197, and 285 to close the evening.
The Polar Bears will conclude the 2018-19 regular season tomorrow when a group primarily composed of JV wrestlers competes in the Mid-States Invitational at Alma (Mich.). The Ohio Northern varsity program will begin postseason action on Friday, February 22 and Saturday, February 23 with a trip to the NCAA Division III Regionals at Wabash (Ind.).
