ADA — Freshman grappler Shaun Wagner (Southington, Conn.) has been tabbed the Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week for the first time in his career, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
On Saturday, Wagner finished second in the 157-pound weight class at the Baldwin Wallace John Summa Invitational with a 3-1 overall record. The Southington, Connecticut product topped Ohio Northern's individual performances with the highest overall finish, guiding the program to 55 total points and a seventh-place team effort.
Wagner won his opening bout via fall over Ohio Wesleyan's Bryce Whittman before notching decisions against Alfred State's (N.Y.) Mike Galton (4-2) and second-seeded Zach Mackall (8-3) from Waynesburg (Pa.). He would ultimately fall in the championship match to Wheeling Jesuit's (W.Va.) Dylan Taylor.
The freshman now sits at 15-6 overall on the season, a .714 win percentage, which includes four pins and two major decisions.
Ohio Northern will conclude their 2018-19 regular season slate with an OAC dual at No. 5-ranked Baldwin Wallace on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
